In 1981, when Sri K.Narayanan was providing spirutual services at Sr Muthu Mariamman Temple in K.K Nagar, Sri K.Muralidharan and Sri S.Rajagopalan provided him the support to start Rama Bhaktha Jana Samaj. In January 1982, His Holiness Bharati Theertha Sankaracharya of Sringeri Mutt visited Sri Muthu Mariamman Temple in K.K Nagar and since that year Sri Ramanavami was celebrated with Dr K . Sowrirajan as the patron.

In 1985, Sri Rama Bhaktha Samaj was registered (Regd No: S-226). The samaj operated from Sri Seetha Rama Kalyana Mandapam for some time and with the support of Smt Y.G. Parthasarathy, it is now running its programmes from Padma Seshadri School in K.K Nagar.

In 1997, Dr. Nalli Kuppuswami Chettyiar initiated monthly programmes of the samaj. Since 2002, music festival is being conducted and a musician is being selected and conferred every year with "Sangeetha Maamani" title and Rs 5000 cash award. Since 2005 the award "Sangeetha Kala Seva Ratna" is being conferred on an artist for exemplary contribution to arts along with Rs 5000 cash award.

Till date, Sikkil Smt Neela & Kunjumani, Sr T.V.Sankaranarayanan , Smt. Sudha Raghunathan , Sri T.N.Seshagopalan and Kadri Gopalnath have been awarded "Sangeetha Maamani". Dr. Smt Y.G.Parthasarathy, Dr. Nalli Kuppuswami Chettiyar and M.Murali (Krishna Sweets) have been awarded "Sangeetha Kala Seva Ratna"

This year (2007) "Natya Kalai Vani" award was awarded to Ms Sailaja for her contribution to Kuchupudi & Bharathanatyam art forms.

Since August 2004, "Rama Bhakthi" monthly magazine is being published with Srivatsa Jayarama Sarma as the Hony. Editor.

Since 1984, the samaj has been publishing a souvenir every year during Rama Navami. Due to popular demand, latest version of "Bhakthi Sudha" has been released that contains many sthothrams. Click here to see the table of contents of Bhakthi Sudha
